On the 29th of November, our beloved Telford will be celebrating turning 50! We thought this would be the perfect time to highlight why this is a wonderful place to settle down, and as one of the fastest growing areas in the UK, we can see why!
Telford was listed as one of the top ten happiest places to live in a Rightmove Survey in 2004. Not only does it have a fantastic history and heritage, but it also has some superb places to visit, numerous green spaces and exciting events happening throughout the year.
Fancy a picnic? Take a trip to Telford Town Park, it was voted the UK’s best park in 2015! Telford is also home to an ice rink (one of only 57 in the UK) and bowling if you fancy something more active. For a shopping trip, Telford Shopping Centre has everything you need under one roof, with two departments stores – House of Fraser and Debenhams. When you’re ready for a bite to eat, there is a wide range of places to choose from in Southwater, from a steakhouse to Mexican and a vibrant cocktail bar too.
We’re incredibly lucky to live on the doorstep to a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which attracts approximately 1.3 million visitors a year. The Iron Bridge is currently undergoing a £1m+ restoration project, but you can still visit this Conservation in Action, or go to any of Ironbridge other attractions – there is something for everyone!
This winter, take a trip to watch a Christmas film at Telford IMAX, visit the Telford European Christmas Market or feed the deers at Attingham Park – there’s plenty to see and do each season!
Happy Birthday, Telford, we look forward to an exciting future!

Did you know?
In 1963, Telford was going to be named ‘Dawley New Town’ before it was decided in 1968 to name the town ‘Telford’, after the engineer and road-builder, Thomas Telford.
